Foolers

My son loves his pacifiers. We have them in a variety of colors and styles. Some cheer for a particular sports team and some express love for mommy. The lactation nurses in the hospital regaled stories of doom and gloom related to this seemingly simple baby apparatus. "It will cause nipple confusion in your breastfed baby!" "Don't start giving a pacifier to your child until he is 3 weeks old." "Pacifier's cause malnutrition." Phil and I were so freaked out. We were new parents striving to provide for our son and not mess him up too terribly early. Ha! We were so naive!

We were apprehensive a 2 weeks but ended up giving him a pacifier in desperation. I remember my hand shaking as I put it in his mouth. He took it right away and ever since sucks away and has continued to grow and never had "nipple confusion." In fact he is in the 97th percentile for height and weight. He LOVES to eat but also has a sucking urge that transcends human fulfillment. Pacifiers are our little saviours. Fussy at church? Pop that puppy in. Waking up in the middle of the night for no reason? One tall order of sucking coming right up.

While packing to leave our apartment for the summer Phil ventured under the crib to collect the long lost friends that had made a break for it during the night. I have posted a photo of the crew that was recovered. Thank goodness for those little old friends. I salute you!
