29 Weeks

Here I am at 29 weeks!

Baby Micah now weighs about 2 1/2 pounds (like a butternut squash) and is a tad over 15 inches long from head to heel. His muscles and lungs are continuing to mature, and his head is growing bigger to make room for his developing brain.

He has also learned to use his brain to control primitive breathing. This means that if Micah is born now, he or could probably breathe independently. He is also a lot better at controlling his body temperature
Other fetal development that is occurring around week 29 of pregnancy includes the following:
  • The baby will be able to turn his or her head to find the source of a bright light. Your baby is continuing to become more sensitive to sounds, tastes, and smells.
  • The fat layers will continue to form.
  • The head is in proportion to the rest of the body.
  • The eyes can move in the sockets.
  • The bones are fully developed, but they are still soft and pliable.
  • The baby will begin to store iron, calcium, and phosphorus.
Like I said in the last post, I am overly thankful that Micah is developing and growing so well. It does bring peace of mind knowing that if he was born now he would have a chance at survival! Just minutes ago a friend of mine who just started her 28th week gave birth to her 2lb. 9oz. baby son and he is breathing on his own! I am grateful for every day that passes that brings me closer to Micahs' birthday. At my Dr's appointment on Thursday (yes, we have made it to appointments every 2 weeks) my Dr. assured me that Micah is in the head down position and that at this point he probably will not be turning or changing position!

I say "head down and ready to head out!"
